Well Mind Workshops

The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another  (William James)

Stress & Anxiety

The unhelpful consequences of stress are even more being accepted as part of modern living.

At the same time research findings into the effective ways of coping and thriving with stress are becoming established scientific facts.

These workshops give a good initial understanding of some basic techniques we can all use to great effect.

Learn how to minimise the negative effects of stress when it occurs and prevent the possible serious health consequences if left unchecked over time.

Part learning, part doing, we aim to help those starting their journey in taking more control of their own mental and physical health and to get some balance back.

Many people struggle with everyday stress and low level anxiety -                                if you are one of them then do join us for one of our workshops on how to manage & improve your daily life.

Everybody has worries, from our jobs, children and health to phobias, world politics and the environment but if you feel these are taking over your thoughts in unhelpful ways there are simple techniques we can use to rebalance our lives.

We will be offering more workshops in the future on specific areas of life which are affected by stress, such as sleep issues and problem solving. We'd love to hear from you if you have suggestions.

Jacqui & Simon

Stress is not what happens to us... it's our response to what happens... & response is something we can choose at any moment.       (Maureen Killoran)

What we do

Between stimulus & response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth & freedom.   (Victor Frankl)

We aim to give you the tools to manage stress and anxiety in everyday life.

Research is showing more and more that there are some basic fundamental building blocks of mental wellbeing. We believe that to be effective the techniques we use must be backed up by evidence. Understanding the techniques is essential for effective use.

Breathing

Yes, it is something we all do naturally! But when we are anxious or stressed the way we breathe can become erratic and play into our anxiety.

We explain how we can control our breathing, dampening down the brain's reptilian reflex of fight or flight.

Relaxation

When our minds are stuffed full of anxious thoughts which prevent us seeing the bigger picture relaxation is hard to come by.

Practicing relaxation skills not only benefits your body through reducing tension but gives you greater cognitive flexibility to problem solve.

Mindfulness

Put simply - live in the here and now. Learn to enjoy the moment rather than worrying about the past or future.

By learning cognitive diffusion techniques we can put those anxious thoughts where they belong, where they can be addressed at an appropriate time.

Practice in Daily Life

We will discuss how, where and when these techniques can be at their most effective.

Included in this is your feedback & questions - after all these workshops have to work for you. Everyone's stresses and strains are different as are our daily lives but we can all find a few minutes to practice, to strengthen our resilience and enjoy our lives more.

On the day

Please make sure you are in a comfortable chair, in a quiet room where you are unlikely to be disturbed. Turn phones to silent and have a glass of water handy. We will ask you to have your cameras turned on but sound muted and to rename your screen with just your first name. You will also need a biscuit!

If, at any time, you feel unsure about anything you are welcome to send a message privately through the chat box to one of us. Recording

We will be recording the workshop for our own (private) professional development. No information will be shared with anyone else. For confidentiality and to respect others please do not record for yourself.

Afterwards

We may email you after the workshop with a questionnaire for feedback. It is important to us to know how you got on and if you have any suggestions.
